Another word for vow is promise. Yet, the word “vow” is deeper than a promise.

• To vow chastity means to give your whole self over to the love of God so that you can open yourself generously to all people.
• To vow poverty means you stand in solidarity with those who are poor. It makes you more able to let go of “things” so your heart can be focused on God and what God wants for our world.
• To vow obedience means you don’t make all of your decisions on your own. You first of all are obedient to God and you make your decisions in consultation with others. Obedience teaches you to listen.
