St. Dominic's mission means caring for all persons with respect for their personal worth and dignity while embracing their total needs. This is accomplished by committed employees who understand the mission well.  Valuing physical and emotional life and health, St. Dominic's ministry is demonstrated daily as high-tech, scientific skills are blended with loving care for people.  But much more than just a 571 bed, not-for-profit hospital, St. Dominic Health Services also includes various health outreach services and clinics and St. Catherine’s Village, a life-care retirement community.

It was 1983.  The Sisters gathered in Springfield for their General Assembly and later General Chapter.  It was a formal planning meeting that was held once every six years.

Five years ago Nathan Mihelich, Director of Communication for the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, Illinois, was an embedded reporter with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 133.  At the same time, Sr. Ban Saaed, was a second year Dominican novice at the St. Catherine of Sienna Motherhouse in Mosul, Iraq.
