Sister Lori Kirchman, OP, Then and Now

Then...
Yum! Chocolate! I have loved it since I was two years old! Here I am doing my favorite thing – licking the spoon with chocolate batter on it. I used to love to help my mom cook. We would bake pies together and make bread together. Of course Mom was really the one doing all the work. She let me think I was helping! Ah, to be so carefree! I had no responsibilities and I so enjoyed getting into things when my mom wasn’t looking!

Now...
I still love chocolate today! And I still love to bake! But now I have a few responsibilities. I am one of the vocation directors for the Dominican Sisters of Springfield. It is a wonderful ministry when you can talk about the life you love with people who are just looking into religious life. It is a gift for me to be able to walk the journey of discernment with women who are seeking God.

In Between... O.K., well a few things happened in between! After college I taught elementary music for two years at a public school. Then I felt drawn by God to enter a community of religious whom I had known and loved all my life - the Dominicans of Springfield. After entering the convent I taught for 8 more years then ministered as a liturgist. God and music – what a great combination!
